No problem. I'd get one if I could, its a pretty good deal. :D

    This laptop is:

    -thin
    -Beats Audio
    -attractive and seems well designed
-a light 15.6" laptop (the best selling display size, albeit at 1366x768 max native res)
-has great battery life thanks to its 4–cell, 60 WHr 4.1AH Li-ion battery
-equipped with USB 2.0/3.0, HDMI, SD card reader, LAN and mic/headphone audio ports. Good!
-NOT like Brazos 2.0, its MUCH faster and it costs the same as most other Brazos/2.0 laptops right now

NOTE by David: I imagine if you wanted the backlit keyboard , one could be swapped in easily. However, there's no mSATA here, (only on Intel platform) if that matters. Lastly, take advantage of the dual channel memory available, it will really help the A6 APU perform its best!

From our benchmark results, it's clear the A6 isn't as fast as Intel's mainstream Core i5 CPU, especially when it comes to multitasking. To be fair, AMD isn't claiming that it is a direct performance match. That said, you should think about what type of tasks you use a laptop for. If it's the same as the vast majority of users, that's surfing the Web, e-mail, social networking, and streaming online video.

In anecdotal hands-on use, this laptop, despite the slower processor, is perfectly fine for any of that, even with a standard 5,400rpm hard drive instead of an SSD, and with 4GB of 667Mhz RAM. The fact is, most laptops are very overpowered, considering the relatively simple things we ask them to do.

AMD's A6 is a combination of a CPU and GPU (the company calls it an APU, a bit of made-up marketing speak). The AMD Radeon HD 7500G isn't the same as getting a high-end discrete Nvidia (or even AMD) card, but it's better than traditional integrated graphics. In our Street Fighter IV test, at 1,366x768 resolution, we got a fair 26.7 frames per second. Depending on what you're playing, it's similar to moderately better than Intel's current-gen HD 4000 integrated graphics. Fine for casual gaming, but you'll have to keep the settings turned down for most current A-list games.

    Sleep (10 percent) 0.8
    Idle (25 percent) 6.47
    Load (5 percent) 23.15
    Raw kWh 27.48
    Annual energy cost $3.12

Going in, I was a little concerned about the potential battery life on this laptop, as AMD systems have traditionally not been as strong in this area as their Intel counterparts. But, this latest generation of A-series CPUs seems to have made some improvements in this area. The HP Envy 6-1010us ran for 5 hours and 41 minutes on our video playback battery drain test, which is very impressive for a 15-inch midsize laptop.

HP includes a one-year parts-and-labor warranty (although I've seen other, more expensive, Envy laptops start with a two-year plan).

The problem with this laptop, it only takes one 7mm HDD. These HDD-s are not available with higher capacity than 500GB. For those whom it's enough storage space perfect deal. Otherwise it is a higher quality build than many other laptops in this price range.
I'd like to see a similar deal for Samsung Series 5 NP535U4C-A01US 14-Inch, which can be equipped with 2X1TB HDD or SSD+1TB HDD, while similarly thin :).

500GB is good enough for me on this device. I'd rather it be on an SSD if possible. Its got USB 3.0 for fast communication to an external hdd/ssd. This laptop is able to use up to 16GB of DDR3 1333 RAM.

At least its not as bad as the S405's soldered 2GB of DDR3 RAM+1 empty sodimm slot. The S405 is suppose to have 2.5" SATA+mSATA and a removable battery.

NP535U4C is very attractive too and comes with a brighter (300vs200nit) and matte finished display, but I do not like its heat vent location (i much prefer the side vent of the S405 and upcomming 14.0" Pavilion Sleekbook. I would like to know what max temp is during intensive stuff like prime or furmark.

Yeah, the soldered memory problem with Samsung too, at least they soldered 4GB. I like much better when all the slots are free, because we can use low-voltage or any kind of memory. The Envy Sleekbook has backlit-keyboard too, which is a big advantage.
The upcomming 14.0" Pavilion Sleekbook ain't look too well, shiny plastic, no backlit keyboard, just thin...

I have an unused Samsung 830 I was going to use. I know this uses the same RAID system the 4t uses, I'm curious if this "cripples" the SSD speed also. Still faster vs the HDD it ships with.

Yes, Samsung 830 is the perfect solutions for laptops with 7mm space. There are rumors AMD laptops cannot take the full speed advantage of Sata 3 drives, but I guess it is only true for large file copies.

Remember, there's no mSATA here, so no RAID. That's only the 4t. This laptop uses one 2.5" 7mm drive.

I recommend an 830 or 840 (regular or pro). The 830 has been out for a long time and is very reliable and problem-free but consumes more energy than a lot of other SSDs. If energy consumption is your number one concern, consider a different SSD. The 840 on the other hand is more energy efficient, but its brand new (not yet for sale) and we don't know anything about its reliability. Also there's two to pick from depending on what you need and can afford. I predict another home run for Samsung.

I don't understand. Was it a specific group/brand/model that had this issue? Where did you hear this? I've used CrystalDiskInfo and HD Tune Pro and they both see my 830 as SATAIII (in the 2.5" 9mm main drive) location). SATAII is available via the optical disk drive location with a caddy.

If this were upgraded to 8GB of Ram (assuming it can be), would anyone know if it could handle common games such as League of Legends, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Guild Wars 2?

Aren't the AMD laptops working at Sata II speed?

The mentioned Samsung is cool and quiet with discrete GPU too, and possible to buy with A10-4655M without discreet GPU. I believe after re-pasting the APU and adding SSD will be perfect. This review gives lot's of information of the temperature situations.
If this Samsung will get ~$500 price tag, I won't hesitate to purchase ;).

You need Quad Core APU to run GTA 4 well. I would suggest you to one with A10-4655M if you are thinking in thin laptops.

    1. Using Windows 7 Home Premium, you can max this laptop out to 2x8GB = 16GB Total RAM. Not that you would need to, but I'd say 2x4GB = 8GB RAM would be my recommendation. Taking advantage of Dual-channel memory capabilites would be first on the agenda, followed by capacity and memory clocks/latencies.

    2. I looked on Youtube but couldn't find any videos of the A6-4455M (2.1/2.6 GHz 17W) playing games. Judging by its integrated Radeon HD 7500G GPU which runs at 327 MHz, or up to 424 MHz in Turbo mode, and has 256 shader units, I would say it compares well, if not better, to the Llano A4-3300M (1.9/ 2.5 GHz, 6480G runs at 444 MHz and has 240 shader units) and the Trinity A4-4300M (2.5/3 GHz, 7420G runs at 480 MHz, or up to 655 MHz in Turbo mode, and has 128 shader units), but probably slightly less than the Trinity A6-4400M (2.7/3.2 GHz, 7520G runs at 496 MHz, or up to 685 MHz in Turbo mode, and has 192 shader units). Even though the A6-4455M has higher shader units (256), it also has lower clocks. The 35W APUs have the clock advantage (CPU+GPU) but less shader units. More testing and data is needed to draw a final conclusion.

I would like to know what the A6-4455M can do now with 12.9 Catalyst Beta drivers.

    Trinity and Llano APU 3DMark11 Scores, thanks to Atom_Anti ( 1, 2)

Single vs Dual Channel memory performance difference in Trinity (iGPU) thanks to kaivorth at overclock.net

For comparison sake, here's the 6480G (dual core Llano A4-3300M) playing GTA IV. I would say the A6-4455M will perform similar if not slightly better due to Trinity GPU:

Lastly, some Trinity ENVY 6 Sleekbook reviews ( IMPORTANT: no one tests with Dual-Channel Memory):

Exactly! I think the 3 would be playable on low graphics settings.

My AMD E425 works at SATAIII speeds:

When that Samsung NP535U4C hits $500? Not for a long time and I wouldn't hesitate at that price either. :p

    HP Envy Sleekbook 15.6" AMD A6-4455M Laptop (6-1040CA) - Black : 15" Laptops - Future Shop

They just dropped the Canadian version (which has 8GB instead of 4GB) to $500, I got it for $600.

Would you guys recommend I keep it for $500 or buy this laptop:

    HP Pavilion 15.6" AMD Quad-Core A10-4600M Accelerated Laptop (M6-1084CA) - Black : 15" Laptops - Future Shop

The thing is I will only be gaming during my breaks (I'm a uni student). I've honestly been stuck trying to choose between the two laptops for 3 days now so any help would be appreciated.

I want to keep the envy because $500 for a laptop that good is a great deal. Again I'm not a big gamer. BUT if I do decide to play some modern game, I don't want the laptop to quit on me or even overheat.

Then again, I don't want to spend $300 on a laptop when I will barely be gaming. I'm so stuck T-T.

Yes. Its a basic laptop but remember its better performance than Brazos 2.0 laptops at the same price.

I have a feeling the A8 will make an appearance in the later Pavilion Sleekbooks. What Id like to know is if the ENVY Sleekbook will be discontinued?

Wonder if this is socketed or soldered? I guess I've been looking for something to exceed Llano specs not Brazos. They should have just expanded on Llano because so far I'm very underimpressed with the Trinity offerings available so far.

We've mentioned the Samsung above which fits for your criterion. Of course Trinity CPU cores won't be as fast as overclocked Llano, but stronger GPU part makes it upper.

Come on man, it is a quality ultrathin with A10-4655M. Similar machines in Intel ultrabooks with crippled GPU power are cost about $1000. With AMD you get GPU power too, which means more for less. Considering all this; It is a good buy. I only do not buy, because I'm averse to spending more money, before I sell few from my four laptops.

I guess so. I guess I was overly thrilled with my Llano notebook because you could dial it in for i5 performance and great GPU performance. I know the GPU in Trinity is quite a bit better, but at significantly reduced CPU performance compared to its predecessor which just seems backwards to me. I got my 11.6" Clevo with quad i7 and GT 650m for ~ $800. I know the Samsung is thin and light, but the Clevo is also 4 lbs and packs a much more powerful punch. Anyhow I digress. Bottom line is I guess I was expecting a lot more for less from Trinity.

I've told you $675 is good price for a almost fully featured quality ultrathin AMD ;). Hope the next price down will be under $600 at Thanksgiving. I need this machine badly...

If you do get it, please test DDR3, DDR3L and DDR3U RAM differences in gaming and battery life endurance scenarios.

Not good laptop for that kind of test; one stick 4GB memory is soldered.

Do you guys think if the current Windows 7 laptop prices will drop from 26th of October? I do not say this $400 or $525 much for this laptop, but I would be happy to do Win 8 upgrade by myself for saving few box...
