Again, I understand that this is not a notebook deal, but this is something NBR members should know about - I am sure atleast one person will benefit from it.

For a limited time, you can register a .com/.net/.org (maybe other domains also - you will have to check) for $1.99 for the first year at GoDaddy.com. You must use the coupon code 199TEST at checkout. One use of this coupon per account only.

Also for a limited time, you can register a .info domain at GoDaddy.com for $0.99 for the first year. No coupon code is required. There are no limitations on how many .info domains you register for $0.99. ***If you plan on registering 5+, buy through their bulk service ( click here). You will get free domain privacy for all of those domains.

All GoDaddy.com domain registrations have a $0.20 ICANN fee applied. So it actually comes out to be $2.19 or $1.19 total depending on which deal you are talking about.

I wish these deals were for existing domain names. I have been trying to get my last name as a domain (kinda rare) but someone bought up them all and has just empty apache servers on them...grrr

I have always wanted my professional email to be [email protected] :)

If anyone is wondering about the cheap hosting they have at godaddy, i have had it for 2 years and it is the best for the money. About 40 bucks a year is a steal compared to what others offer. I have them with the linux server...its rock solid.

    I would have to disagree.

    The cheapest plan:
    $4.25x12 = $51 a year
If you google reviews on GoDaddy HOSTING, you will see they have sub-par reviews.

    I recommend
    Eboundhost.com
    Inmotionhosting.com
While more expensive, I those two companies will give you better service.
I also have a few more sites I recommend to my clients - I have them all listed on my website if anyone is interested.

You can get coupon codes for the hosting. I pay around 40 for the year of hosting and domain name. I know some people have issues with them, but i have not ever. Plus they have upgraded the hosting side of the site 4 times in the last 2 years and also increased the bandwidth and storage for nothing. My site has only gone offline for 4 minutes this year according to my logs. I think thats pretty solid if you ask me.

    To his his own :)

I use Eboundhost for RationalWorks; Currently I have I think 5 domains hosted on that one account. Eboundhost technical support is quick and knowledgeable and the prices are fair for the features they offer you.

As far as I know, godaddy does not register .name domains.

Just a quick question - can I register a domain through goDaddy.com then host it via my own server? Would I have to pay them a monthly/recurring fee?

Yes you should be able too.

Huh, your right they don't offer .name domain name. That's odd as all of the other domain places do.

I transferred my domain to godaddy.com for like $8

They gave me 10gb webspace, 300gb/month bandwidth, POP email and other stuff for free.

    $8 well spent.

Yes you should be able to.

For a domain you are charged on an annual basis. With this deal, you will be charged $1.99 for the first year. After that, I think it is something like $10 a year to keep your domain.

    Orly?

As far as I knew, with transfers GoDaddy would let you keep the time you have leftregistered on your domain + give you one year free for like 7-8 dollars. I did not know they gave free hosting w/ transfers. Grats and thanks for letting us know.

Is there a way, even if not through goDaddy, to pay a reasonable one time fee and thats it to register a domain?

Yes they let me keep the time i had left from my previous registrar.

The only catch is the webhost, they stick a godaddy ad on your pages. Though you can easily get rid of it by using a simple CSS style code.

Other than that, $8 got me very far. Quite happy with godaddy

Im still uploading my stuff to use up the webspace :) Still not sure on what to do for the website..

You have to pay annually, its a cheap fee.

Having a personal domain is alot better, you get 0 spam on emails.

You can also use it on MSN messenger and hook your domain name as a hotmail account.

Do they allow you legally to remove it?

Sounds like you got a great deal. Did they give you a 1 year free extension too? Because I think I am going to transfer my domain to GoDaddy soon and since I already have a host, I would prefer the 1 year free extension.
