    Hi all.
Wanted to share my experiences and maybe get some help.
I've been using the wrt400n linksys router for around two months.
First month was excellent. Good speed and no complaints at all.
Now about two or three weeks ago The wireless would just disappear on both radios. First it was every week then every two days. Yesterday it started happening every hour and today I can't keep it for more than 5 minutes without power cycling to restore wifi.
I suspected overheating so I put it I a well ventilated area. No luck there. I also was told by one of linksys very unprofessional btw reps that it's an issue when both radios work together which is total bs as I've used both for a month with zero issues before but I decided to try that so I disabled the 2.4 radio. No luck either- half an hour and the wifi disapeared.
I also did the reflashing firmware with the rep (to the same firmware btw) and reset the router wit defaults. That didn't help either.
At this point I just think of RMAing it but I suspect that the problem is the firmware and not my specific unit.
Can anybody here confirm that he has this unit for more than a month without issues? Thanks all!

your lucky it happened when still under warranty , my wrt 600n started doing the same thing 2 months after the warranty ended , just put it in storage as nothing could get it to stop dropping the connection . Tried ddwrt , sveasoft tomato , nothing helped .

well, the new one is the same cr*p as the old. it's a problematic model, and i don't know how to make them replace mine with a different model.

Unless you can figure out a way to make them replace it with a different model you may wanna follow OpenWRT progress on this router.
This one is not supported by DD-WRT nor by Open WRT but the latter is Work In Progress.
    Some other possibilities:
-use inSSIDer to scan for other troublesome wireless networks (unlikely)
-load firmware older than the one you use (it may be a newly introduced issue)
-look into the matter of a new PSU (some people claim some "N" routers- have power bricks that are not strong enough and should be replaced with something with a few additional Watts- that can be risky so you would need to research it and follow someone's successful example!)

I know neither of these is actually a solution per se but it's all I can think of.

hmm.. the psu solution sounds interesting, could you point me to a forum maybe that people discuss such things ?
The firmware i have is the only existing one so no luck there.
I will try inSSIDer too, thanks!

So, after further investigation, i have discovered that dd-wrt is actually beta supporting this router - http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=50794

i have installed it, so far so good.
I hope this resolved all my issues.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
