I recently bought Vaio pcg-v505bx laptop from my daughter. I hate to restore it because of all the stuff on it and problems with it being so slow. When I went to connect wirelessly to the internet nothing happens. I went through the network set up wizard and it states that my wireless network connection is disconnected. The drivers are there but apparently aren't connected. What should I do? Thank you. Leanne

Sometimes notebooks come with buttons or key combinations that disable wireless connection which saves on battery life. You might try and see if there is a key or a key combination such as Fn+ F(1-9). I have a Toshiba and I can disable the network by pushing Fn+F8. I hope this helps. I am sure you have already tried this.

There is a button to enable the wireless which I do have on. When I find "view available wireless networks", mine is there and the notebook says it is connected but when I check the IP....nothing is there. I have had this problem with my HP which was a driver issue. I have reinstalled the necessary wireless drives so I know they are there...but something isn't doing right. AGH!!!! :) Thanks for all your help. I am not going to freak out about this. My laptop (HP) works just fine...the Sony is my son's. He isn't quite so "anal" about things like I am. Thanks again. The laptop is picking up the router. The laptop says I am connected but when I check there is no IP address. I feel like there is an easy fix but my brain isn't thinking clearly. I mean...it has got to be something simple. I have contacted Sony, but they will not repsond. UGH!!

    thanks

It's an odd thing to do but this works quite often. Uninstall the wireless card and re-install it. If you haven't done it before it's under the properties settings of "my computer". Select the "device manager" under the hardware tab. Uninstall the wireless card and then scan for hardware changes. Another thing to try is setting up the wireless connection via the wireless network tab under your wireless network connection properties. This tend to be more helpfull if you've got your network encrypted. Best of luck.
