so i was hoping to purchase a new wireless router to last me for awhile....i've read up on wireless-n, and was wondering, is it worth getting it considering that they tend to be more expensive than others? also, would it be worth it if you didn't have the accompanying card? that is another problem i have. i plan to get a new notebook next year, and i don't think it will have the pmcia card slot, but will be replaced with the new expresscard slots. it doesn't seem like it would be a good idea to get the pmcia card for $100 if i won't be able to use it in the future. thank you for any input!

Both the router and wireless card must match for you to attain the speed they are built for otherwise you will get the lower speed if they are of different speeds.

Do you need the fastest? Depends on how much stuff you transfer between your systems. For Internet access even the "b" speed devices are more that adequate.

well, i am not a gamer, but i do download lots of stuff. i have b now, but i am giving my router to my roommate, and hoped to upgrade with something that will give me faster speeds and more range. do you know when companies will begin making expresscard network adapters? it seems that all notebooks come with integrated wireless cards, and these will most likely not be able to use the special speed boosters a lot of routers have....

Downloads from the Internet will not go any faster than they do now with your "b" wireless. It is only transfers between your own internal network that will benefit from the faster wireless devices.

As for express card network adapters ... I don't know when we will start seeing them on the retail shelves. But you can always use a usb type of wireless adapter if you want something faster than "b".
