I am fooling with my sons lap top dell inspiron 1100 and can't figure out how to turn the wirless switch on. It has the card that slides into the side and is lit up, but when you try to connect it says to make sure the switch is on. I cannot find any switch. HELP!

What brand/model is the wireless card?

What Operating System is ur son running?

It just sounds like the Network Adapter is disabled...enable it in the Network Connections section.

Okay did u try enabling the Adapter in Network Connections like I suggested?

Do a Start--> Run and type ncpa.cpl and hit enter. Right click the Linksys Adapter and enable it. If it's already enabled or it fails to enable, restart the laptop and try again.

Pull out the card and check the model number and hardware revision. Armed with that information, go to the Linksys site and download the correct drivers for your hardware version. Completely uninstall the Linksys software, remove the card, reboot, install the new drivers. Install the card when prompted.

I have uninstalled but I do not have the disc. I could not find at the linksys site the place to download. I found the drivers to download. Is that all I need ?

What is the version number of the Linksys adapter? The available choices are: 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.1, 4.0, 5.0, and 7.0.

You'll need to go to this webpage: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Sate...sitorWrapper&displaypage=nodata#versiondetail

select your version number from the drop-down menu, and then the page will reload with links to the drivers. The link itself is a javascript link, so you'll have to just left-click on it, which will (should) cause a new browser window to pop up and begin your download. I checked each of the pages, and didn't have any trouble getting the download started.

What browser and operating system are you using to download the driver? I'm using Vista and Firefox 3 and haven't seen any HTML errors. I also tried IE 7 and had no problems.

Did you use the link provided by Shyster?

Well, I can confirm now that you're not crazy - it no longer works for me, either for version 3 of the adapter.

But, all is not lost. If you click on the little CD/DVD icon on the right-hand side of the light-blue area containing the link for the driver, you should get the download (that worked for me just now).

Also, since you did what I suggested in good faith and it didn't work for you through no fault of your own, the direct link for downloading the driver is this: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Sate...1193770230807&ssbinary=true&lid=4734842300B22

Also, if you want to cut through the obfuscated url, and get right to the file server that's actually dishing up the files, they're being served from a Linksys ftp server and can be ftp'd using this link: ftp://ftp.linksys.com/downloads/NA/drivers/WPC54G_driver_utility_v3.1.zip

Hope it works for you now. Good luck.

EDIT: Also, the readme file that goes along with the drivers can be downloaded directly from this link: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Sate...1193770230808&ssbinary=true&lid=4734842300B21
