so i was surfing the web on my asus g1, with the cable plugged. When i decide to bring my laptop to another room i disconnected the cable. After that I wasnt able to connect to the WIFI router. I have never had a problem for two weeks since i bought this laptop until now. When i try to reconnect to the network it says " the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network ". But it was working perfectly fine up until then.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

also i am using a linksys wireless G router, my operating system is vista if that matters.

    thanks thanks thanks

Is your wifi on your laptop turned on?

If your wifi is on, is your wireless connection enabled?

Did you try disableing your LAN connection?

I know this sounds simple, but you have to start at the beginning.

Have you tried rebooting your laptop and your wireless router?

Have you checked all the setting of your wireless router?

Do you need to be using an IP address and you dont have one entered on your machine?

Have you tried an IP refresh?

yea. I used FN +f2 to turn it on and off.

there are four other wireless signals that the computer detects. Mines is the only one that states the above problem. Also instead of showing bars for the signal strength it shows a red X .

    disabled, enabled

    i have tried both
Have you checked all the setting of your wireless router?
    Yea, they are the same
Do you need to be using an IP address and you dont have one entered on your machine?
i dunno about this one. Why would i need to do that all of a sudden?

Have you tried an IP refresh?
    yea ipconfig /renew

One a side note. My bro has a dell laptop and the doesnt have a problem with the WIFI. He would be sitting next to me and i would still have the same problem while mine cannot connect to WIFI

    start, control panel, network connections.

When you open network connections what does it say for your "Wireless Network Connection"? It should be either connected or disabled.

If it is disabled then you need to enable the connection. You will need to right click on the wireless icon and click on enable.

I can detect wireless connections all day long all over the place but if my wireless connection is disabled then I cant connect to any of them.

If you dont know if you need an ip address then you probably dont need one.

see the problem that is different from mine is that all the other networks i detect , can be connected. Only my own network has a big X on it and the connect button is greyed out so i cannot even attemp to make a connection
