    wireless problems on dell xps m1530

    hello, Ive been having a bit of trouble with my wireless recently, i am running vista. For some reason my light that shows the wifi will randomly turn off and i have to restart the laptop to get it to work again. Ive tried just switching the wireless on and off but it wont start it. Anyone know?

    If you haven't already tried it, I would recommend installing the latest wireless driver and BIOS for the system. You can download them from the Dell support website. You might want to (re)install the Dell QuickSet software as well, as I believe that has an effect on the wireless catcher switch (its either the BIOS, the QuickSet utility or both that control it).

    fixed the problem now by turing off the option to disable to device to save power.

    Yeah, I've seen the power management settings for the wireless card cause similar problems before. Usually I just see it reduce power to the antennae so they work, just at greatly reduced range.

    I seem to have a similar problem, but with the 1730. When I am sitting next to my room mate, my internet will randomly kick me off, or not allow me to connect due to a weak signal. At the same time, however, he has an excellent connection. I'm curious to why this is because it is very aggravating trying to do anything online while getting kicked off every 5 minutes, and it taking longer than 5 minutes just to reconnect due to low-signal quality that ensues afterward.
