    if i had a notebook which has integrated wlan that is not connected to the internet and a desktop connected to a wired modem to the internet, what would i need for a wireless network?

    wireless router, or a second NIC in the desktop and a wireless access point

    There was a $20 rebate out at Bestbuy for wireless linksys routers. Check the Tech and Bargins part of the forum. My wireless router only cost me $40.00.

    Gateway, as in the brand? That's probably just a rebadged something else, I'd stick with Netgear, they have great support.

    Today Staples has the Linksys 'b' wireless router for less than $10 - no rebates.
