I was trying to log onto the interent with my computer, has an internal wireless card, and althought I was connected with a "very good" signal I could not open an internet page and I was on my neighbors unprotected wireless access point. At the sametime my roomates desktop got the same signal with his wireless adaptor and he was able to log on to the internet. Is this a problem with something in my laptop, does anybody know what might be causing this?[V]

Why not ask your neighbor for some help? I am sure he or she would not mind the least bit. While you're at it maybe he or she can give you some copies of software too.[} :)]

True, but I was just trying to understand why my roomate doesnt have to configure anything when we get the same connection, he just gets immediate access to the internet, while being connected I dont.

My bad on that prior post: by the time I hit enter, you had allready made your post....I recomend having your neighbor configure your laptop just as he (she) configured his computer.

Does your neighbor know that you are trying to access his network? Maybe you should have him sign up for this site so we can teach him to put up the proper security for his networks.

Update your driver and ask the owner to update the firmware for the access point.
