I have Uverse with AT&T and paying for DSL. If I connect wireless to the 2wire modem I get 54 mbps. If I am connected ethernet to the AC adapter that goes from one adapter to the other thats connected to the modem downstairs, I get 100.0 mbps. I thought My internet speed would always be the same regardless how I am hooked up. I know the connection strength is different wireless but how does that change the speed ?

Your internet (WAN; internet-to-modem) speed will be the same whether you hook up with wired or wireless. Your network (LAN; router-to-computer) speed will change.

Generally, most WAN connections aren't fast enough to be bottlenecked by even 54mbps wireless, so most downloads and games will be just the same if you're wired in at 100mbps. What fast network speeds (e.g. 300mbps, 1gbps) affect are activitity within your network, like streaming movies from another machine of moving files around from one computer to another.

also I thought id ask this here instead of making a new thread. I sometimes visit my grandpa up in another hill billy state. and I Have to do some reports and use the internet when visiting him, but he has dial up, he doesnt want to pay monthly for high speed internet. Is there any device or something you can purchase one time that would increase the dial up speed some ?

No- dial-up is limited to some 7KB/s and it won't go faster.
You may want to consider using your mobile phone as a modem though.
GPRS is as slow as 56K modem but EDGE would go up to 30KB/s (in theory at least). UMTS/3G is a different story but I assume you wouldn't be in range anyway.

Even so EDGE doesn’t require 3G and is significantly faster than 56K modem.
