so im on a wireless connection with that is encrypted and has a password protection on it, and for some reason my asus g1 which runs on vista connects to it fine and i can browse but then when i start browsing for a while or heavily and downloading particularly then it looses the connection and indicates that my connection is limited with that yellow triangle with the exclamation point in it. it never fails to go to the limited connectivity state it just varies with how long it takes for it to change to that state. its driving me crazy because all my roomates have fine connections and most of them have vista as well.

I will say one thing, a while back i did do some minor tweaks to my tcpip i vaguely remember what exactly i did but it had something to do with running hte cmd command in windows and changing a few values. I also had a network determining enhancer of some sort but i disable it through unchecking the box in the wireless ethernet properties.

Ultimately my question is does anyone have or have had this problem and have ANY suggestions on what i can do, I'm the only one in my house which my internet doesnt work. I've had this same problem on two different encrypted routers, one which is a mac which i firs thoguht had to do with mac being like mac only crap and now that its doing the same thing on my new house encrypted router i believe its some setting my computer has wrong. THANKS in advance

It sounds like, first and foremost, you need to reset your TCP/IP settings back to default, and undo any other network-related "tweaking" you've done.

Search google for TCPIP and CMD. If something rings a bell back track, but most CMD commands just are command lines for settings you can change via the Network CPL. Open your wireless network connection and head to the Wireless card, make sure to remove everything that isn't default. If your network works of DHCP then you might have added DNS servers that you don't have access too, or your ISP has changed them.

as we have no idea what you did to tweak it, it is hard to say what to do to untweak it. Some of the more basic reset are:

Click the START orb, type CMD in the search box, and when it appears at the top of the start menu, right click the CMD and choose RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR

Type the following commands (case is IMPORTANT for nbtstat)

    ipconfig /flushdns
    < enter >
    nbtstat -R
    < enter >
    nbtstat -RR
    < enter >
    netsh int reset all
    < enter >
    netsh int ip reset
    < enter >
    netsh winsock reset
    < enter >
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
    < enter >

I had this problem with one machine after updating drivers and nothing--I mean nothing--I could do would fix it.

The only solution was a complete reinstall and using the original drivers for the adapter.

firstly thank you for your help i have not yet tried the most recent help but i do have one question, if i uninstall the driver for my wireless card through device manage and just restart my computer will my driver reinstall on its own through reboot? I've heard that it does and frankly want to verify before doing something stupid plus i googled for my realtek rtl8168/8111 driver and had little to no luck, i ended up just finding the xp version. thanks again though

Its a moot point since all seems resolved, but yes, uninstalling the card and rebooting results in a re-installation of the drive.

One caveat--you can sometimes check a box when you uninstall some hardware that says "REMOVE DRIVER FILES?"

When you checkthat box, the driver is uninstalled. Rebooting will result in Windows trying to reinstall the software, as the hardware wizard will appear, but the hardware will not reinstall without new drivers being installed.
