Friends, I have 15/5 FIOS plan, MI424WR Rev I router (all stock settings) and use 2 laptops via WIFI ( I also have a HD homerun wired to the router) Once in a while when using the Dell 610 (running Bodhi Linux) with Broadcom card my router will reboot itself. In about 90 seconds I will be prompted to enter my passphrase and I can continue. It does not happen on any specific site. I have reset the router & ONT but no joy.
NOTE the router never drops when using my Asus g73 (Atheros card) win 7 + this accounts for 90% of my usage.

I have contacted VZ and they remote logged into the router but this did not help.
    Thanks for any insight, J

I also have VZ FIOS with an MI424WR Rev F router. No problems.
Leave the ONT alone. Start checking the router’s firewall and system
logs. And see if it trapped the issue. You can setup the router to email you.
Also check the VZ forums for similar reboot problems with Linux and Broadcom.

Thanks EasyCruz, I did post in VZ forum but no responses in 4 days. I am "all star" over there so I guess people assume I should know how to fix it. + 1

You do understand that Broadcom card is likely the worst option imaginable for running any *nix, correct?

Given that Dell doesn't whitelist wireless cards like some other manufacturers, I'd strongly suggest getting an Atheros-chipped card.

    My $0.02 only...

    Good luck.

Personally, I'd suggest an internal card, but a PCMCIA one will work well for testing purposes.

I'm on Atheros 9380 cards on all of my machines that accept the format, but:

    1) I'm not on FiOS (I so wish it were available here in the mountains)

    2) My router is different from yours

    Obviously, YMMV...

Are you sure your carrier isn't to blame? Your service can go from completely reliable to the luck of the draw at the flip of a switch. Comcast tough me that when I rejected their higher rate plan.

The only thing that one could possibly blame VZ for is not providing a better router for their FiOS customers, but that has nothing to do with the OP's main concern.

I can't say anything about Comcast since I've never had their service, but anything that runs on fiber from beginning to the end either works properly or it doesn't work at all. There are exceptions but they are far and few between.

Intermittent offerings usually sit on copper or coax.

Good point, just before the issue started I went from the 3/1 plan to 15/5 and started using the Dell with Broadcom card. I read a lot of people are having similar issues with the Rev I router in VZ and DSLreports forums
