I got a dlink dir-625 revA1 (firmware 1.09) router using mixed mode with WPA2 encryption. My notebook is an HP DV9644ca with an intel 4965agn wireless card. Now my question is if I were to get like a console (wii, ps3, or xbox 360) or maybe an HTPC with wireless which would run on wireless G, would the network speed on my notebook slow down to the G speeds?

Normally my computer says that it is connected at 144mbps while the router states around 107mbps. Now when just looking on my router stats thingy i see:

    Wireless
    Associated Wireless Client List
Use this option to view the wireless clients that are connected to your wireless router.

Number Of Wireless Clients : 2
MAC Address IP Address Mode Rate Signal(%)
    00:1D:E0:0F:XX:XX 192.168.0.XXX 11n 78 100
    00:18:E7:0A:XX:XX 192.168.0.XXX 11g 54 100

    But it this trustable?

    thanks!!!

Currently most dual band routers support is very poor at this time. Yes they can connect using there own freq, but the firmware is not very good. Which is expected with all draft 11n hardware. To check out performance go to smallnetbuilder.com they have tested all 4 dual band routers.

Your notebook will always connect as wireless N but if you use a PS3, Wii or other gaming consoles they will take some speed away as they have to be shared. I have a PS3 and a Wii and when I'm on the net my son's real time on-line play will occasionally lag with the PS3. I finally connected the PS3 to a cable instead of using the wireless. The more people logging on to the wireless router the slower it gets due to it's bandwidth are being shared. I have the DIR-655 and it's much better than the DIR-624 Super G.

Once I noticed that my brother's wireless router kept blinking even though he wasn't using the net. He said the cable company said it was secured and when I was able to log-in with my wireless phone I told him that it wasn't. Then he mentions that his connection is a bit slow. I secured his router and the blinking lights decreased significantly and his connection was way faster! He had the mistaken idea that his router was secured for over a year! His neighbors must've had a grand ol' time stealing his bandwidth and my brother was pissed!
