sorry for the noob question but should routers be left on 24/7? and if so, is it likely to cause any problems with the router?

They are made to be left on for long periods of time. I would say no it will not.

I've had my router on 24/7 for nearly two years now, and there hasn't been any problems with it.

Yea I would keep it on 24/7. There shouldn't be anything wrong with it. Besides, it would be a hassle to unplug it all the time.

i've had mine on 24/7 since i got it about 2 years or so ago and apart from the odd occasion when it throws its hands in the air and decides it doesnt want to work properly it works fine (its done that maybe 4 times since i've got it :) )
