I am now in a large house (renting a room) and the router is in the front of the house and I am in the back. Don't know if wifi will have the range and stability so I am looking at all the alternatives from running a long cable to powerline.

looks like a powerline adapter set will cost about $50

Actiontec - 500 Mbps Powerline Home Theater Network Adapter Kit - PWR511K01

has anyone use these or other powerline adapters?

how is powerlines speed? Are they more stable then wifi?

powerline cost is good i am just currious about the performance

That depends- it fades with distance rather quickly and will not work at all if you are on a different circuit in your room than the room with the other power-line adapter.
While this doesn't usually happen in flats it may well happen in a house.

    +1 for the Actiontec.

I use 4 of their 500mbps adapters throughout my home and have had great luck with them. I am able to stream HD video from a server in my basement to an HT PC in my livingroom on the opposite end of my house with no issue at all. For refrence, I tried Monsters powerline adapters first and they were quite a bit more sporadic.

But yes, you do have to be on the same circuit for these to work...they wont jump boxes.

What do you mean by same circuit? Do you mean the same breaker in the panel box or just on two separate breakers in the same panel? Your comment about jumping boxes is very confusing.

The only times I've run into a real problems with powerline are in huge houses with multiple meters/drops, or in houses with extremely old wiring.

Sometimes the powerline signal can be detected as far away as a neighbor's house, but the noise makes it unusable for communication.
