I can get them registered, but they still won't connect. I'm referring to problem I've had with a DIR-655 and a WB-1310.

the problem gets even weirder. my PC MAC won't register and work either. I mean, I put it in, it's accepted, but if I connect, no go, whether I power cycle or not.

so how do I connect? years ago a registered a Dl-604 that works like a charm! I could get the other routers to work, but only after I cloned my 604 MAC and then, the connection was spotty, whether I was wifi or jacked directly in. every 10 or 15 minutes, it would d/c me...sometimes it would do it in rapid succession, wired or wireless.

I'm totally mystified as to what in the world is going on here. any help or suggestions would be appreciated!!!

You may need to get you ISP to reset their registered MAC address. I'm assuming you are refering to the cloning of the registered PC. Most cases it's the pc's MAC address used to setup the account.

perhaps I should have mentioned I am allowed to addresses registered with Telus. one of them was the PC and the other is the Dl-604. I removed the PC to register the WBR-1310 first but it didn't work. so then I called Telus support and they registered it, but still, it didn't work. then we got the DIR-655 and we had the very same problem.

then I cloned my Dl-604 MAC address into the DIR-655 and it sorta worked. like I was saying, the internet connection was being dropped all the time, whether it was wireless or wired. the lights on the modem (a DSL-300G vB1) never changed.

so like I said...I am at a loss! I'm afraid to remove the one MAC address for my 604, being it's the only other way to access the net, while I fiddle n faddle with the other two, trying to get something to work.

Reset the modem to factory. Do the initial setup again.
Now turn off Modem and Router. Leave them off for 10 min.
Power on the modem first, give it 2 min to come up. Now power the router up. Give it a couple of minutes to come up. Now connect to the router by wire. Check the connections status. Did it connect or not. If not Do a release and renew and see if it will connect. If your modem has a status light make sure it is not blinking green/red if so you are having a signal problem feeding the modem. I had a neighbor that had the problem and the tech discovered that who installed it had to many connections and was not getting a good connection.

Contact your ISP and verify they have the correct MAC address for your 655. When I swapped my old router for my new 655, I contacted my ISP and gave them the new MAC address. I couldn't connect at all. After doing quite a bit of troubleshooting, a new ISP technician discovered the MAC address was wrong.

Have you tried calling tech support for the router or ISP?

Very good point, It took a neighbor 3 times before they got it right. It kept converting back to the old one. And once it was changed it took like 4 hrs before it took place, what a terrible system they had.

I have the same problem with the 655 when I try to use MAC filtering. If I put in the MAC address of this laptop (same one that was cloned) I can't connect to the internet when I enable MAC filtering. Haven't gone back and tried again since the first few times, but it was very frustrating! What would the ISP have to do with MAC Filtering?

He's having problems with the connection to his ISP, WAN side. Not the lan (local net) as you refered to. He is not MAC Filtering, he's cloning MAC address into the router for his ISP to see.

actually, I did have MAC filtering on...the two MAC addresses of our laptops. but the same problems exist when it was disabled.

there is no reset button on the modem, that I can see, otherwise I would have pressed it by now.

and yes, I've had several discussions with Telus about this. I'm actually wondering if it could have something to do with the fact my 604's MAC uses a 0 as the first number, whereas my 1310 and my 655 both have a 1 as the first. I have yet to contact Dlink support tho. was to busy today to do so (slept late and then I went to a friends to install RAM in their PC). being the problem we're having is the same for both the 1310 and 655, we're gonna take the 655 back and try working it out with the 1310...or perhaps get a Buffalo, Netgear or Linksys unit...something non-Dlink related.

turn off router turn off modem

turn modem back on wait till it sync

then turn the router on give minute

    go the oca.bc.hsia.telus.net site

    hit register mac address

    unplug router and replug in
it shound get public ip on wan side instead of private ip of 10.0.0. telus for computer / router not reigster on telus

Are you sure you are using the MAC address of the wireless cards and not the wired NIC? Common mistake.

    Update firmware?

I'll try that andyasselin and yes Soulburner, it's the right MAC address, I ensured I was dealing with the right one. it was interesting to find that I cannot access the Status option unless it's connected tho. it's grayed out if you try when it's not.

Always use a wired connection to do configurations. Routers do mini boots and knock you off. Are you use FF or IE. I have run across a few routers firmware that did not play well with FF, and the other way too IE.

well guys, I figured it out. btw blue68f100, I was always wired when I was doing all of my activities.

seems with DSL, when you're in the router, you need have it clone your PC's MAC so it can be assigned an IP address. then you register it's MAC address and it works right.

what a crazy time tho...it took two weeks and frustrating calls with both Telus and Dlink phone support. what's even worse is my constantly getting females from another culture who had a fair command of English, but such strong accents, I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND THEM!!!

well anyhow, everything is fixed up and I know what to do next time something like this happens. chalk it up to experience! hopefully I won't forget this...
