So which is the best wireless router for gaming on the market now?

I have a Dell m170 and want which ever wireless router will give me the best ability to play BF2 on my sofa (my sofa will have direct line of site to the router.

I currently have a Belkin 802.11g (54mbps) and was thinking I should get one of the new routers with 108mbps.

    Thanks!

I have the Netgear DG843G which is absolutely fantastic. You can get a little gaming adaptor to fit it. It is by far the most user friendly and easiest to set up router

    Linksys WRT54G

The 108Mbps really wont effect your gaming at all. In fact it wont ;)

The Linksys WRT54G is a very strong/durable router with little/no disconnects.

Its what i use, and has been great for the last 9 months

So is it worth it getting a wireless router with 108mbps?

Or should I just keep what I have?

    Thanks!

I would go with the Linksys still personally

Or, even better would be a Linksys WRT54GX

    Thanks Nick

So I am getting my m170 sometime this week and it is coming with the intel 2200 card. Will I need to replace this in order to get the optimum speed from the WRT54GX?

If so, what internal wireless card would you suggest for gaming?

    Thank again!

With a solid signal, on a 54G connection, you should get around 22Mb/s reliable throughput(assuming you're the only wireless connection). Since very few internet connections even approach that speed...you wouldn't need to replace your card.

I use a WRT54G router(V 3.1) and an Intel 2200 card. Mine games just fine over it on a cable modem connection(6Mb/s).

Frankly...the only benefit of those "gaming" routers has always been the way they prioritize data over the network. If you're the only one using it while gaming, they won't help. Just get a quality 802.11G router and you'll be fine, especially if you'll be that close to the router.

Upgrading the card for increased speeds only helps if you are transferring large files across your intranet(not internet) from multiple computers on the LAN, or have more machines sharing that wireless connection to the internet(and if it's only 2...it won't make much of a difference). What's the benefit of having a 108Mb/s connection to the router if you're internet connection is only 1.5-10Mb/s?
