Does anyone know what kind of wireless is onboard the sylvania g netbook? I want to see if it is compatible with ubuntu. I know it is running gos but that does not mean it has a user friendly wifi chip.

    Thanks.

    Michael.

Not mine. Looking into it and others trying to decide on a good ultra portable. Any suggestions? My fear is ending up with a broadcom chip and having one long headache trying to get wireless working with Ubuntu.

Realtek RTL8187 Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter

This is what the Windows XP driver INF says, so I'd think that's right. And it's already running a flavor of Linux, so I'd think that it shouldn't be too difficult to get it to work with Ubuntu.

Tigerdirect has them for $329 and I just ordered one. We'll see how it is, hmm? I like the idea of having a notebook I can stick in my leg-pocket!

So, apparently, this netbook does not have onboard wireless, but instead will use a usb dongle? Is this correct?

Not sure I like that. This means using ndiswrapper. I know how to use it, that is not the problem. It is, quite simply put, a real pain in the backside.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Michael.
