i'm currently using a Zoom 5590-00-03 DSL Modem / Wireless Router
and i'm thinking that it's not able to handle 3 laptop and 1 desktop.

so i was wondering if i replace that with the Netgear WNDR3300 modem/router, would that help the lag i have when everyone is using the web?

also what's "Dual Band" and "N" router

Yeah thats very slow connection, which is most likely why you have the problem. Try upgrading to a faster service to fix your problem.

I have a 6mb connection with 768 upload and this is what i got (i have 3 users on my network with about 10 machines and have no problems):

Get $35 / AT&T Broadband - so ultrafast at 6Mbps downloads. I get from 5.2+ Mbps. Awesome to get free Wifi at many hotspots with this too!

Then use Google Chrome as your browser! I open multi-tabbed forum browsers and I'm amazed at how much faster Chrome is than IE7 on this!

And Netflix Instant movies at 5 Mbps - near DVD quality!

    Totally YUM INTERNET!

Not necessarily. ISP's often offer different tiers of service.

....The god of broadband service. We keep getting the run around where we live. They won't bring it to my city due to our "recession"

Man that sucks, they spent millions rolling out that network going in debt assuming that they would make it back since its the better service.

And they are but for sure the current economy has to be hurting them, everybody getting laid off is probably turning off there internet & tv services right way as thats one of your few "optional" bills.

NY & Fl was where the first areas of it were, so I got it pretty fast, infact I adopted it before they even converted it over to DHCP, my setup is still PPPoE but its really good still, and we just got it here at work about 2 months ago.

I download stuff all night while I work. The TV service is also great, it replaced Direct TV and gave us many more channels, no more rain outages, and it was cheaper. So many HD stations too!

Shame I Have no time, I have watched TV in my room all of 3 hours in the last 4 months or so since we got the service.

You seem very happy with it. Lucky you! I live in New York but it still hasn't came to my area. :(

Thats not bad for download, upload is suffering and unfortunately its probably more important in many cases.

The biggest problem with Cable is how its setup. I had Road Runner Cable service and they are hooked up in what I will call sectors (I forgot the offical name for it off the top of my head) but what it is, is a large area of space that is pretty much mapped out like graph paper that entire area is funnled through just 1 network interface.

So all the companies, and home users have there own connection going into a sub line, and those sub lines tie into one main line to go to central.

In a highly populated place like Tampa those main units get incredibly over loaded causing slow ping and loss of bandwidth. They raised the limit to 8mb/s down just before I got rid of the service and the normal speed for me for normal human living hours was 2mb/s and in the dead of night when the vampires were up I would get about 6mb/s

My friend about an hour away in the boons got like 10mb/s all day long just because he lived out in nowhere.

Yep, cable is a shared medium. It is horrible in that sense. DSL is not a shared medium.
