I'm using wirelless router to connect to internet using my laptop.

why does Vista do not saved its ip address when I restarted my computer?
every time i reboot it, I have to set up the ip addresses manually to connect to internet. Is there a way to do this automatically? I cannot use 'obtain ip address automatically' also.

You should be able to obtain an IP automatically by enabling DHCP on both the router and the computer. The router should be set up first, and then, when the computer detects the network and tries to connect, enable the DHCP setting on the computer.

If you hard set a static IP in vista it SHOULD maintain it. Sinec this is a wireless network you might want to make sure you have a config for it in the wireless network manager.

In other words when you connect to the network did you SAVE the config?

If you have 2 locations that are the same it's nothing but problem. Change the SSID to something unique.

Since, I do it manually through Manage Network Connections>Wireless Card>Properties>TCP/IP IPv4>Properties, I can only find Close buttons...

I don't have the laptop in front of me to look screen by screen for exact verbage here but here goes.

When I connect to an AP for the first time I click on the connect to network option that appears in the tiny window you get after clicking on the network icon in the tray. Next I see a list of AP's to conent to. I double click on the one I want to connect to and set up security WEP/WPA info if needed. When it finally connects I am presented with an option basically asking if I want to save the set up and connect to it automatically next time.

It has honestly been so long since i set a static IP on a WiFi connection and having never done it in Vista I don't know how much use the above will be. I don't remember if setting a static IP to a WiFi card is saved for that connection only or if it should apply across the board.
