    hey,

I know this has been here couple times, but I never found the solution to my problem.
I want to share files with XP noteboook. I set everything accordingly, My vista firewall is completely off (through cmd - wf.msc), I connection center, I set everything right too (first 3 are on-green. no pass protection). The XP notebook can access my public folder on C:/ no problem, but when I want to share the whole D:/ (other partition), the other computer sees the folder but cannot get into it, saying he doesnt have enough rights. but I set that "everyone" can do all - read, write, and control (? - my system is in nonenglish language). both systems are legal, activated, updated.....

what should I look for? thanks

Okay, you mentioned the everyone under the "Security" tab. What about the "Share" tab?

in share tab, its set that everyone can read and control my D:/, but in security, I cannot find any "everyone group". there is only SYSTEM, Admin, Users and Authentified users..... and they all have right to read

Yhea, none required on a MAC.

A real test is to have an elderly (no computer experience) try to connect with a MS then OSX. Then it will be apparent which one is easier.

I have been doing networking since the early 1980's, so I know a little bit. The reason I share my knowledge for users coming here for help.

Can you give more details? like what errors you get, settings etc

Try temporarily disable all firewall/security programs for both computers.
