    Hello guys

I have HP Envy 15 2014 version with Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160

my problem is the Wifi signal is unstable and very weak

it drops from 4-5 signal bars to only 1 bar, more like "spikes"

i am 2 meters away from the router and i am getting full signal bars on all my smart phones, laptops in same place

i change to the latest drivers but it didn't fix

changed wifi channel and it did increase the signal on my other devices except this laptop

    what can i do?

Is U-APSD disabled in the AC-3160 Advanced Settings?

    If not disable it.

Disable the wireless card's power management to "turn off to save power"

Is the router set to WPA2 AES Only?

Is the notebook power option on High Performance?

Maybe the antenna connector is loose? Might be worth opening it up to check.

AC is a 5ghz band technology so if you are using the 2.4ghz band where Intel AC wireless cards don't perform well your speed may suffer.

The AC-3160 performs at a theoretical link speed of 433Mbps on the 5ghz band. The AC-7260/7265 perform at 866.7Mbps.

TKIP + AES....To get full AC speed you need WPA2 AES "ONLY"

Having TKIP limits the link speed to 54Mbps or less.

Notebook power management should be High Performance when using the ac power adapter. On battery you can use balanced.

Well to you can update the driver to begin with. It may help, it may not but it's certainly an old one so it's worth trying.

I found out the problem, it was the antenna cable stuck under a screw, really lucky it isn't damaged.

now i am getting -30 dBm and it detects more than 25 Wifi connections in my area
