What is your router/modem and internet connection?
Are you sharing the connection with anyone else?
Are you using wireless?
If you can, go to www.speedtest.net and see what speeds you get -
Are you virus/trojan/spyware free?
-
Change your wireless password every 2-4 weeks or so.
-
both wireless and LAN are equally slow, the desktop pc that uses LAN is also slow.
i don't think that there are any virus or spyware
i tried going on that speedtest site to test it but my connection is so slow i can't even test it. -

If it is possible, remove the router and connect directly to the modem. See if your speed increases. If it does not increase, you might need to contact your ISP. -
-
Contact your ISP and tell them you have internet speed problems.

What you describe is a classic MTU setting being to high. I had the same problem early on when I started networking. Some pages would load od but Yahoo and other would not. In the router on the main WAN/ISP setting you will find a MTU setting of 1500(def). Lower it to 1492 for dsl. If nothing is loading and you do not have valid gateway and dns server Ip. Your ISP may be MAC Filtering, just clone the mac address of the PC used to setup the account into the router. Save settings and then check the router status for a valid connection.

Here's one i could use help figuring out.
I'm on a wireless notebook, cable modem, generally things are peachy keen ... some yahoo webcam issues but the real kicker is the forum I spend a lot of time at. When it was a phpbb board, it was very fast. It's now an SMF board and here at home, it runs as slow as molasses. Same notebook at work on a wireless DSL connection? Fast as lightning. Why this one site? -
Different firewall/network settings.

hmmmmm .... looking into this angle, thanks -
It's conceivable, and it's one place to start diagnosing - if it turns out not to be the case, then at least you've excluded that possibility for later.

Have you reviewed the SMF community forum? I recall seeing posts about this type of behavior in the past.
very very slow internet
