    hi, we need a modem for verizon at work because when my boss ordered the package and everything, she forgot to order a modem. now verizon is charging $100 for the modem. can i get a modem from somewhere else and run verizon dsl through it?

    Yes, you can, as long is a DSL modem.

    i see. because a while ago, we tried to use the verizon modem for earthlink dsl, but it wouldnt work. the modem doesnt have to be specific to the ISP?

    Nope, a modem is a modem, just ask Verizon which modem they were going to send you and check it out at radio shack or best buy, or online.

    the only specific thing i could see...would be maybe with the earthlink...the modem that wouldn't work wasn't PPPoE capable...
