    ok.
I have my laptop (vista home premium) and family desktop (with xp pro sp2). Got comodo firewall v3 on both. On family comp under networked comps i can see laptop but cant access (installed layer topology update). On laptop under network map i can see family but not connect. I try disable ipv6 but can't get internet then. I disable firewall on both and still not connect. It has been bugging me for a long time know. ANy ideas.

Did you share anything on either computer?

I'm in a similar bind except that our desktop is XP and my husband's laptop is Vista and it works splendidly while my XP laptop does not So...my only suggestion is to maybe check that the LOG-IN info is the same on both computers .

Do both computers belong to the same workgroup? On the Vista computer, do you have network discovery and file sharing enabled, and did you select private instead of public? Have you created identical users on both computers? If you disable the firewall, can you connect?

Also is your OS of XP legit because Vista has a new feature that won't connect to illegal versions of XP. (I had this problem, I'm a bad bad man) Should work though make sure it's a private network and you're firewalls are allowing this. turn on DMZ hosting and port forwarding.
