Seems like you have two options:

    1. Take back the Netgear and get one that has the right type of connection.

    2. Ask your provider to change out the broadband modem for one that has the regular RJ45 (?) type of connections.

Yes, i also would take it back. You should a get a new modem from your computer or you should purchase one. :)

    thanks for your help..

    does anyone know
    a) where i can buy a ethernet modem, and does the broadband modem contain the login details to the provider.. or would there be any issues with changing modem
b)what is the best wireless router (good value too!!) that includes a modem..

    thanks

I think you should ask your ISP on that.

Motorola i think has a good modem with the router built in. But i would just get a modem becuase you have the router already. Bestbuy has what you need for the modem to. What kind of internet do you have. Is it through a cable or phoneline. Here is diagram. Internet to the modem. (What kind kind of cable would connect to the modem, phoneline or cable or?) Ethernet cable to the router and the wireless to your computer. Configuration will be a little tougher though. Good Luck! Nick :) :)

I've seen a few cable modems (assuming it's cable, but DSL should be the same) in my day, but never one with only a USB connection....It seems odd that it wouldn't have an RJ-45 plug...what kind of modem is it?

My Motorola Surf Board 5120 Cable Modem has a ethernet port which comes with a ethernet to usb cable and a plain ethernet cable. So that modem is a USB considered. Nick :)
