Alright I will get a lappy for xmas. But i had concerns about the internet. I have a dsl internet for my desktop. I will have to get a router to make my laptop to have internet wirelessly? What about if I am in the car? or in a hotel/whatever.. And what should i keep in mind before getting a lappy.

For the wireless network, I would recommend one of these.
They have a SpeedBooster (Linksys's way to make it faster), but IMHO it isn't worth it.

Additional info to keep in mind:
    1) That Linksys will also function as a router, so that is the only thing you'll need.
    2) You should be able to get a WiFi signal from anywhere in your house, and maybe even in your yard depending on the strength of the router and how your house is built.
    3) Get the Intel 3945ABG card. They usually perform better than the others.
    4) Make sure that you use WPA (password protection) on the WiFi network. Linksys's setup guide will help you do this.

    About WiFi anywhere:
    1) That requires you to get a laptop with a PC Card slot (PCMCIA)
    2) Also, you would have to get a PC Card to receive the cellular network internet signal. (More $$$)
    3) You would have to pay about $60-70 per month to keep access to that. This is different from your WiFi network at home, as well as your DSL service.
    4) Data rates are a little too low to be worth in IMHO.
    5) Most decent hotels now provide internet access if you bring/buy an Ethernet cable.
