Hi,
i go to a boarding school and live in the dorms. problem is that whenever i have a league match to play, everyone is on the internet giving me erratic 150-200 ping making it unplayable for competition. i was wondering if it is possible to redirect most of the internet to my computer giving me a constant 70-90 ping for like 45 min or so so that i would be able to play lag free. Getting my own internet connection is out of the question because its a business address and i cannot get comcast att to set it up because it would be extremely costly(NOT <$50 a month more like >$1000 a month XD)
please help thx

What? Redirect the internet? Uhh...

I think he is asking if he can prioritize his usage in reference to others in the dorms. I do not believe this can be done without administrator network access. I have looked into this a bit as I am on a shared connection as well. The best solution I have found is to cut down quality and frames, thus getting a bit less lag.

Yes, play on lowest settings.

Yes.. get a router(with traffic prioritzation)/computer/virtualmachine with linux (there're special distribution for routing purpose), then tell everyone to connect your computer/router and you can prioritize the traffic.

i have set it to the lowest settings ever and i still get 150 erratic ping..So jackluo, do i just plugin the lan cable to the router and itll do it on its own or ?
any other suggestions? will it be possible to play on 3g iphone connection hehe -

You plug in your router and let everyone connect to your router. Then throttle everyone's internet connection except for yours.
BTW...3G connection has higher ping. -
wow.. well i talked to the tech person in my school. and they said the school has total 12 mb bandwidth. next year theyre updating it to 20mb. will it cut my ping in half ^^

What kind of school is that? I have 30Mbit/s line at home and 100Mbit/s+ T1 line in my high school.
Yes.. more bandwidth should cut your ping by a lot when the internet is under heavy use. -
LOL idk i asked them and was like my fren has 30 mb at home and hes only paying $30 a month. y cant the school get like 1 gb and pay 1k a month? they were like 12 mb already costs 2k per month.. i didnt bother arguing

12MB/s business line does cost over 2K per month. LOL
-
lol theyre upgrading it to 20mbps which costs 3.5k a month.. so like for sure next year i can game smoothly during the day ^^
EDIT: also they said theyre changing to fiber optic cables. i heard that makes ur ping faster too. can anyone clarify? -
boomp. some1 know about fiber optic cables?

why does it cost so much?!?
