    like what the heading says.
i can sign into ym from other wifi hotspots but not from my house!i cant even go to the ym download site- however i can go to yahoo.com.
i have turned off/reset the router and modem but to the same effect.
i did not update or change anything in the router and the only thing i did recently was a windows update kb2607712 which has to do with some certificate revocation.
could this update have caused this? what can i do to get ym funtionality back.
from the sights i regularly surf it seems like ym is the only one with issues.

    any help would be appreciated

it can be just simple DNS issues at the ISP. I experienced similar things(hotmail) a few days back. By manually use google's 8.8.8.8 as the DNS server, I had no problem. May give it a try.

I already did that and the problem is still there

I actually shifted to open dns within my laptop but it hasn't changed.
I'll try shifting the router's dns to see if it makes a difference

i chenged my routers dns to opendns and can now connect. its just wierd that my isp's dns would block something like ym and the ym download site.

Are you using basic or VIP from here?
OpenDNS > OpenDNS at Home I have a load of sites that do not work unless I turn off my router's bulitin firewall. Thanks J

I wouldn't do it either but you can do a test without it. Not very likely to be the cause but still another possibility would be rulled out.

since changing the dns fixed, im inclined to think that it is a dns (and therefore isp) level issue.

why would one want to use something like opendns rather than simple 8.8.8.8 run by google ?

If there is congestion for google's DNS, they have failed miserably. The whole reason they made it big was that they said one of the key performance improvement based on their study is that many ISP DNS is slow and why they provide that service.

Of course, this may be limited to NA and it can be slow if it is not accessed from within NA.

I'm from Southeast Asia, but I haven't tried google's dns yet. I did read the news on the google dns servers a while back but I just assumed it would be more congested than others.
Now I'm thinking the opposite after your reply? Many people in Asia may not be so aware of this service yet and I may indeed get better results if they have Asian region optimized servers.
    Will try shortly
