How come when I use wireless internet through linkys the connection is much much slower than if it were hooked up directly with a lan cable.

any thoughts anyone? should it be that much slower?

Well, the worse your signal is, the slower the connection will be. If you sit right next to the router, your conenction speed should be the same as if it were plugged in. Of course being plugged is more reliable, but you're plugged in. You could run a bandwidth test plugged and unplugged a few times to see how different it really is.

Dont forget that ethernet doesn't get that much interferance, because it is shielded (two types of ethernet shielded and unsheilded) for the most part they dont get that much interferance. And wireless since its going threw the air, and can be easily interfered with. You might want to check out where the router is located and move it...

    blah hopefully that made sense
