You'll need a new wireless-G compatable router (I use a D-Link DI524, $20 at Best Buy), but it'll have the wired ethernet ports you need for your desktops (up to 4, at least one must be wired), plus it'll let you use a wireless connection for up to 4 laptops. All computers connected through that router, whether wired or wirelessly, will be able to network together.

    LuckMC11,

If your printer connected to one of your desktops is USB, you may want to get yourself a 4 port wireless router that has a USB print server built-in. This will allow you to connect the USB printer directly to your router. This way, you can print from any computer to this printer, even though the computer the printer is normally connected to is off.

    Something like this from SMC.

yes everything you are saying is possible. that's how i have it set up right now.

I have one linksys wireless g router, one i9300, and three desktops all connected. the router will itself have the four wired ports so that you can connect your desktops into it.

I also have a printer that's hooked up to my desktop and i have it shared on the network so that any of the other three computers can print from it. The only catch is that my desktop is also a webserver, so it's on all the time. It has to be on for the printer to work.

Your desktops will connect exactly as they do now: use CAT/5 ethernet cables to plug them into the router. And you laptop will find and connect to the router automatically if you're using Windows XP.

I don't fully understand why you're having so much trouble. You aren't trying to plug your existing wired router into the new wireless G router, are you? That's not necessary.

I have verizon DSL and my router and modem ar one. It is wireless capable, so what i do is connect my other desktop and my laptop to the AP and then share the printer, so if i want to print on my other desktop or my laptop, i can print through that. The only downside is that if i want to print, i have to have my desktop ON.

    Here's a simple diagram.

Note that the printer is hooked up to desktop 1. You just need to share it on the windows network and it should be accessible to all the other computers on the network as long as desktop 1 is turned on.

The router i am using is the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router : WRT54G

Did you look at the drawing? It says it is not hooked up. You do NOT need to run two routers.
