Your connection's too old and is suffering from arterial sclerosis.
Just kidding, what's your computer's make/model and what OS are you running? Also, does this happen with all types of downloads, or just certain types? Finally, is it possible that yout ISP could be throttling your downloads? Check with your ISP's agreement or support pages to see if they have a policy about doing that. -
i have core2duo 2.4ghz with 4 gigs ram vista ultimate 64bit....and used to run great now not so much also it happens with any type of download
-
Try to remember also what have you done lately, have you installed a new antispammer, antivirus, etc.
-
nope i dont run any virus, ad or spyware
-
What about a firewall, have you tried to disable it just to see if that eases up the throughput?

Lol, that makes a lot of sense.

You're probably maxing out your internet connection speed or you are using all available TCP/IP connections. Example, Vista allows 10 TCP/IP connections and when using torrents, those connections tend to max out. If you go to event viewer in Vista, you will see warning messages. Normally with bittorrent clients, they are supposed to let go of a connection when another program requests it. If you are downloading torrents when you experience this slowdown, it is possible that your client is not properly releasing TCP/IP connections when asked. This can slow down web browsing because a web browser usually makes several requests for data on a page using multiple TCP/IP connections. If it does not have enough, it will use what it has to make all its requests. TCP/IP is not important for the download, but is important for the upload. When you view a website, an initial download is made to give the browser a preview of the site so it can determine what it needs. Then an upload is made with the necessary requests and then the site is downloaded to be viewed.
This could explain why the problem is persistent in each install of the OS. -

What D/l app are you using.....
I found when i used Azureus ( because it is stupidly Java hungry ) my internet browsing grinded to a halt, i know it was not becasue my connection was maxed out as everyone else on my connection could surf fine. I simple changed from that client to Bitspirit, walla.................. all now cooking with gas as they say.......
Give it a try -
i dont use any download i was using firefox as my browser maybe thats the issue ill try explorer and see if it is also slow>???
and as far as running naked i dont i just dont run real time on my cleaning progs -
You didn't happen to save your firefox profile when you formatted your machine and then re-load it onto your new install did you?

Another thing is what is ur KPS/S when u download ? if u got Timewarner cable it'll goes for around 500kbps and up depends on location. MOstly 500kpbs average someitmes it jumps to 600kbps at night.
I had a chance to use one of the timewarner's connection that goes up to nearly 1MB or 800- 900kpb/s
So that's ur real speed from ur cable line.
I don't believe y ppl still think that having a wireless N router improves their connection via internet . It's totally wrong. Your ISP limits ur download bandwidth to certain limit. So go figure out by urself what's ur max speed ur connection can do . Then install flasgot and flashget combination and line up ur download in there and limit the speed in flash get so u can surfweb watching youtube without a problem .
HOpe that helps.
Yeah, the other poster reminds me about torrent as well. I don't know why , but torrent usually takes lots of connection from other peers that ur connection can run around 100kbps download and ur actually connection is up to 500kpbs for example. So bitorrent will takes up ur max bandwidth with out using it cause the traffic of connecting to many other peers that eats up the available max download speed from server.. so u actually can use aroun 200 or 300kpbs of ur bandwith when download via bittorrent and a regular HTTP serverr download.
slow web browsing when downloading
