so recently vista decided to make the whole network config lag on startup. Everything else boots extremely fast and the internet connection itself is instant. The network taskbar object has the red X for about a minute later however. This is on an M860tu, no new software installed since the change or anything. I've narrowed it down via event logs and whatnot to be related to the DHCP. Since the first week i've have the registry mod so my lappy works with all routers - this is located in HKEYLOCALMACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/TCPIP/Parameters/Interfaces

I noticed since this problem arrised, a random extra registry entry or 2 would be added in right here seeming to be the cause of the issue. With that I was wondering if anyone with the NP8660 could post the registry folders they have within Interfaces to help me keep track of which are being entered without my knowledge without the DHCP broadcast flag toggle fix.

    Thanks in advance!

If your not connected to any network or server, you can disable the workstation service. This usually speeds things up.

Have your tried booting only running bare minimum? I can see alot of unnecessary processes running.

Have you tried removing the registry "tweak" you described in your original post to see if that gets rid of the problem?

it appears now that disabling the workstation service now solves the issue...though solves is subjective... i use networked drives and whatnot on a daily basis so not really the best option... any reason for you saying that shyster? My reason for having that is that my laptop won't connect to many WAPs because of dhcp compatability issues. that tweak fixes that

Because the recent emergence of the problem appears to be possibly linked to that tweak, although that isn't a sure thing. Removing the tweak to see what happens might be a useful way of determining whether it's something that's reacting primarily to the tweak itself, in which case that would narrow it down to something network-related that was changed just recently, or else exclude that possibility. It might also lead to the generation of different event log items that might help to pinpoint the source of the issue.

Removing the tweak provided no such luck...(would be odd if it worked because i've had that tweak there since august) i've thought hard about anything that could have possible changed recently. All i can think of is having connected to 2 new routers, both of which are now deleted from my access point memory. A little ways before that i installed the bluesoleil bluetooth stack but i dont recall that giving me any issues immediately...i've tried starting with all of it's services disabled as well...have you heard/seen any other possibilities that might interfere with the workstation service?

well this is happening in multiple locations...but something i've sometimes noticed is that with workstation disabled, if i look at the network taskbar icon, it seems like im trying to connect to the same network twice sometimes...maybe this could be another hint...(or just a glitch :D) please elaborate lixuelai if you've got any ideas on a fix, thanks!

AH HA! it is indeed bluesoleil's bluetooth stack that causes the issue! now i actually need the stack (for stereo AD2P bluetooth protocol) so i need to find out what exact part of it is interfering

registry entries within browser(which is dependent upon the workstation service). I just did a process of elimination regarding everything that had the possibility to interfere with the workstation service... A little indirectly in this case. I'm still trying to come up with an idea to prevent BS from interfering though as it is really great software and i'd like to be able to keep it installed
