I got a dell 6000 laptop with a Intel 2200bg wireless card. My router is a Netgear mr814v3.
Basicly the notebook connects to the router, internet works at half decent speeds but what's more annoying is that file sharing over laptops connected to the same network is r eally slow (under 1mbps). I tried to go to my friends house and it's just as slow on my computer. I tried updating the driver for the network card to the latest one but still have the same problem.
The internet works but kinda slow, i can't download faster than 120 kbps (other computers on the same network, downloads from the same sites go up to 600kbps).
Any idea why the slowdown on the 6000?

edit: oh and also power management is set to high for the network card

Did you also update the firmware on your router? The 2200bg card has several well documented issues, but I'm surprised to see you have so much trouble on different networks. Try the firmware and if that doesn't work, consider asking for a replacement card.

Try updating your 2200 cards drivers. I believe that since your wireless and transferring, there is something near the router. Is there any cordless phones, TV's, Kitchen Appliances? Something as small as that can really cut down speeds. I had a modem next to a TV and it cut down my internet by 3Mbps.

i've done the updating for everything still does the same thing
i called Dell and they said "oh since it's able to connect to the router then it's not a hardware issue so there's nothing we can do"
so i guess i'll just get one of those pcmcia wireless cards to help drain the battery quicker

yeah i did, same with the phone unplugged (and battery out of the handset)
i also took the laptop to my friend's house, he's got a linksys router and same thing happends (way less than 1mbps transfer between 2 laptops)

i've read posts online about problems with the 2200 but they all say the connection drops to 1mbps (mine it always shows 11mbps on a b router and 54 on a g router in the connection status)

Hmm, well you know its that laptop witht hat card. So its not your router. So that means i would try all of the different drivers with the 2200 card. Then if nothing works, i would contact dell and see what they say.
