My router changes my secured network name to a general linksys name, sometimes with an OW after linksys. Also it disables the wireless security by itself. It is driving me crazy. It changes several times a day. I thought it was being caused by my cordless phone so I went out and bought DECT6.0 phones that are not suppossed to mess with the wifi. Does anyone have and suggestions on what might be causing this and what I can do about it?
    Thanks in advance

I don't have an answer but you might want to state the brand and model of router. Also, is this a new problem? Was it working properly before and just now started having problems, or is this a new router?

the router is about 18 months old and it has been doing this for about 4 months and it is getting more frequent. The model is Linksys WRT54gs. It is set on WPA2 personal, channel 11. It happens at different times of the day with no set pattern(like when the phone rings).

I could blast it with radio waves and this wouldnt happen its definitly either the firmware (did you update it at some point?) or the nand memory could have developed some bad blocks causing the firmware to be corrupted.

If you updated before this started happening then it might be like myne, latest firmware update made myne useless. DD-WRT firmware saved it and gave it nice functions that I will never use lol. If you havent updated, give that a shot, should skip bad blocks when writing, though if the hardware is bad it might brick on install.

Almost certainly a defect in the router itself, either corrupted firmware (if you're lucky) or bad hardware. I'd try redoing the firmware, like ClutchX2 suggests, and if that doesn't help, get a new router. Unfortunately, the sad fact is that these things really aren't built to last.
