after looking for a 2-in-1 device, i decided to get a router and modem separately. im looking at a wireless N router from TP-Link, and though of getting an ADSL2+ modem from TP Link also, tne TD-8840T was one that i saw.

i just want to confirm that these two will work well together. and also, the speed is something that im unsure about. i see the wireless N router capable of very fast speeds (300mbps?) but the modem has a speed of 24mbps. its not like im ever gonna achieve a speed of more than 8-10 mbps currently, but i want to be sure that this modem is as fast as it gets, or do i have options to get a much faster modem? thanks!

Max speed of ADSL2+ is 24mbps and that's why you can't get a faster ADSL modem than that. Wi-Fi is another matter- 300mbps (which in reality is almost 100mbps of throughput) is mostly needed for your local LAN transfers, not downloading from the net.
All in all it should be fine- TP-Link is a reputable company.

Yes- that's the idea to let the wireless router do the routing while the modem has routing disabled and is working as a modem only.
Don't worry about that- you'll manage.

ok so i got the modem, hooked it up. it connects fine to the internet with the ethernet cable. i hook it up to the wifi router.. the internet light on the router flashes, but i have no internet access when i connect. is this coz the modem device is stil trying to do the routing? i cant figure out how to put it in bridge mode, if thats wat ihave to do. any help? thanks!

You probably need to go into settings in your router and tell it what ISP it is to use and any password info they require. If you do not have the original paper work from your ISP , then go to there site or contact them by phone for assistance.

yes, i already did that. still get the yellow triangle thing, and it says no internet access. all my settings are fine, coz i used them to connect the modem to the internet first.

Persistence is what will eventually get you up and running. Check everything again. Modem, Router and run your wireless troubleshooter on the computer.

Log in to the modem and Interface Setup→Internet. There under Encapsulation you have bridge mode.
When you activate it all you modem needs is VPI, VSI settings. In that case you have the router to handle assigning IPs and so on so you have to configure it properly.
Consult TD-8840T User manual for details.

thanks for ur help, im finally up and running. i tried changing it to bridge mode on the web interface, but when i entered my VPI/VCI settings, it said its a duplicate or something.. so i reset the modem n used the tp-link setup cd, set it to bridge mode, n then set up the wireless router.. perfect. thanks again for ur help!
