I have a D-link b router (11 mbps) and a SMC wireless card on my laptop (11 mbps). It connects to the router and everything but the speed is not impressive (drivers and firmware are up todate). For example file transfer between my desktop (connected to the router through a cable) and laptop is about 90-100 kbps. If I also connect the laptop to the router thorugh a cable then transfer speed goes up to 1-2 mbps. Is this how fast wireless should be?

Depending on how much interference you have it could be low. It also depends on how far you are from the router. The speed that the wireless gets is in megaBITS per second no megabytes... 8bits=1byte. Hope this helps. I don't know how fast you should get on 11Mbs, but I am running at 54Mbs and I get upto 600kb/s on some downloads.

WiFi 11B should be faster. And your wired connection should be much faster too...
