    Hi everybody :) ,
I got a Sony Vaio SZ640 about a month ago and and obviously there happened to be some problem with my wifi. It does search for the networks and it does connect to them. The problem is that although it shows that the connection has no problems,I cant browse the internet nor log on any IM messenger - its like there was no network all in all,but in the connection properties i can see that it keeps downloading data. it is annoying me a lot  ,bcs i mainly use wifi at work and home and without it i am not possible to use internet wherever possible, only to jack a cable in. Does anyone know what problem could be there and help me please?

forgot to say,I ve got windows vista business on it

So mitkooo, you never got it to connect via WiFi before?

Sounds like some program is blocking ur network traffic. It's possbile it could be a virus/malware or some sort or a firewall program.

What router are you trying to connect to, and have you verified that the router is _Vista-compliant?

I tried to connect it to several routers, but i am quite sure they are vista compliant, bcs my other notebook, the Vaio Fz(also with vista) could be connected normally.

    Thanks for answers,guys!

Get the computer set up so that it is manifesting the issue you posted about - connected but not connected - and then do Start->Run, type "cmd" (without the quotes) and, when you get a black console window open, at the prompt type "ipconfig /all" (again, without the quotes) and then take a screenshot of the results and post the picture (or, if that's not possible, type in a new post what shows for your wireless network adapter).

Why is ur DNS IP on a different network? That could be the issue...go into ur wireless network card properties via network connection in control panel. Right click on it, go properties. Select Internet Protocol from the list and select Properties...make sure the DNS section at the bottom is set to "Obtain IP Automatically..." If that is set to Obtain Automatically already then u need to find out what ur DNS IP Address is..it might be configured wrong on the router or something.

Also, the router (default gateway) is normally 192.168.1.1 not 192.168.2.1.

And following the subnet mask, the laptop IP address should be 192.168.1.something (>1 and <254)

I don't think that's the issue...The Local IP Address of my router at home I have manually set to 192.168.2.1, which is the default gateway so that could be fine.

Thanks a lot makaveli72, I set it as u said and its working now! :) On the other hand,it tends to switch to the other option ("use the following DNS") when i turn off the wireless hardware switch and then turn it on again. But that doesnt happen if i just restart the computer. DO you know why it is so?

If you're trying to connect to your wireless network automatically, then you should have DHCP enabled - your ipconfig results, however, show that you have DHCP disabled. Under the configuration box on your laptop for your connection to your home network, for the IP Address, you should have DHCP enabled, and on the tab for DNS you should have the tick box for getting DNS automatically checked as well.

I believe this is an issue w/ Vista itself. I've heard of ppl complaining about this before..where it would just switch on its own. I'm not sure of the resoultion for that...i'll have to do some research!
