Hi I just got a HP ZD8060
The problem is, when I try to connect to the internet via a Linsys cable/dsl "non wireless" router it doesnt work at all....I called my ISP and they told me to connect straight to the modem "using the cable that usually goes to the router" in other words the "cable" cable
And it worked !
So then I connected the "cable" cable back to the router where its supposed to be and connected the laptop to the router "using the other cable that goes out from the router to split the signal....And it still didnt work
The ethernet card on the zd8060 is a Realtek and the router is a Linksys BEFSR41 version 2
Ever heard of a compatibility issue or something?
I mean....A day before I had a HP zv5450 working just fine right out of the box under the same connection as I described above 0_o
Thank you in advance for any help you could give

I'm really not clear on these cables ('"cable" cable'??!!). Please describe these cables and the ports you're plugging them into physically (how many pins/contacts on the ends and in the ports). You're probably plugging RJ-11 (phone) into RJ-45 (network).

If you are using the right cable, "rj45." Do a reset on your router. Then, make sure to clone your mac address back into the router. Plug it into the proper ports and see if it works.

Thank you for the reply
To reply to you both I dont know much about these things
The cable in question is an Alcatel 380100 E107890-UK 24 AWG CMR 75C (UL) C(UL) ETL VERIFIED TIA/EIA 568-A CATEGORY 5 2400 99155M
I see 8 pins on it
The fact of the matter is I used the same setup as described above on a HP ZV5450 and the whole thing ran fine right out of the box
Maybe the ethernet components on the HP ZD8060 are not the same I dont know -
As for the "cable" cable....It was just my neophyte way of going wrong about explaining myself
To recap the problem
My ISP told me to hook up the laptop straight to the modem using the cable that usually goes from my modem to my router and it worked
So I then reconnected the cable to my router to go and try to hook up the laptop to the router using the cable I just described in my reply above, and it still doesnt work
So there you have it....The problem "hopefully" properly explained -
Hmm, have you tried your new laptop on other networks? Have you tried other laptops on your broadband connection? While the fact that it worked for your last laptop as configured, it's still possible that it went down during the interim, so it needs to be confirmed whether this is the fault of the broadband or the laptop.
Assuming it's the laptop, and assuming you're running WinXP, go to Start > Settings > Network Connections and then right click on Local Area Connection and select Status. On the General tab Status: should be Connected, and on the Support tab Address Type: should be Assigned by DHCP. If all of this is true and you still can't get online, click the Repair button on the Support tab. Tell us what happens.

Hmmm I think I see what's going on here. Your broadband connection is fine, the problem is this router you have between the connection and your system. If you don't mind my asking, why do you have a router and not a simple ethernet switch? In any case, your router seems to no longer be leasing IP addresses. What you need to do is find the manual for your router and follow its instructions for resetting the router to factory defaults (usually by holding down the reset button until the lights change) and then reconfigure it by whatever web interface the thing has (also in the manual).

OkI will go about doing so....In the meantime, Thank you for your time and patience
I will let you know how the whole thing turns out soon -
Ok heres the deal
In the general/status tab I get "limited or no connectivity" message
In the support tab I get further information such as "Limited or no connectivity :You might not be able to access the internet or some network resources. This problem occured because the network did not assign a network address to the computer."
After pressin the detail button I get a physical address, an IP address and a subnet mask.
Pressing the repair button did not repair the connection
