My wireless internet seems to be much much slower than when I use it with a cable. The same is happening when I play wireless LAN games - it's lagging a lot more than yesterday. What's going on? This has literally just started happening.
Web pages seem to load, then stop, then start, then stop again, thus taking longer. When I switch to cable, this stops and the pages load smoothly.
I have a netgear DG834G v2 wireless ADSL Firewall Router.
Can anyone help? This is really frustrating! I've already tried resetting the **** thing, and I've updated the firmware.
Thanks

sometimes the speed is ok, sometimes it's very slow. Does anyone have any idea why my wireless is being so temperamental?
-
maybe it is your wireless networking card on your laptop, maybe it is faulty.
Try accessing your router management console and check that in no way your laptop is restricted access to internet. In particular, disable MAC address filtering. -
change the broadcast channel. This is actually more common than you would think. Try channel 11 if your router supports it.

Thanks Aivyn, it worked! rep powah to ya!

just curious, why would channel 11 be better than others? My router supports channels 1-13 but it was on channel 11 that i had the problem

You could be getting interference from another router(s)!
-
Yes. I always recommend doing a network scan, seeing which networks are around you, and what channels they're using. Then use a channel that's furthest from them as possible. Noise is very prevalent on 802.11a/b/g networks. And if you have a 2.1GHz phone, be aware that those will often cause interference as well, because they use the same spectrum.

how can you tell what channel other networks around you are using?
-
In the Intel wireless manager, just search for Wireless LAN's and click the "Show Details " button. The Windows configuration tool just won't tell you (yay obfuscation!). You can use a tool like this to scan your local area for wireless networks, it may give you more information.

haha, that retina scanner thing is cool.

try updating the drivers on your wireless card. I find that really helps for Intel cards.
