    problem connecting to other pc's from notebook

    ok so i got my new laptop and im trying to transfer files from my desktop over to the network.. ive gone to my network places.. and it is blank

    ive tried pinging the desktop and it times out with the firewall turned off

    ive gone to set up home network and i go thru it all and still nothing

    ive looked through the tutorial and cant find anything.. can anyone help?

    i click on set up a home or small office network and it brings up some random wireless network thats not mine, and it doesnt show my ethernet connection/network

    are you connected wirelessly or via cable ?

    if wirelessly, are you sure you're connected to your own network?

    connected thru cable.. i disabled the wireless not to deal with the other persons network

    Are both machines in the same workgroup?

    yes they are.. i cant access the workgroup from the notebook

    ok i tried pinging again, and i got it to work from my notebook to the main desktop that has the router.. does that help at all?

    one problem down- got it to work by turning off the norton anti virus personal firewall.. thanks to help from southern girl.

    but i got another problem, now on my desktop, i cannot access the files.. it shows up in the work group but the shared files section doesnt show, i can see all shared files on my desktop but not my laptop
