have a studio xps 1640. has the intel wifi 5100 with the most recent drivers.

my problem is i'm deployed and i see everyone around me on the damn wifi, but mine is either slow as (took me an hour to get to this page. not kidding), stays local only, or has local or internet and when I try to go to my home page it says website found. waiting for reply. or Waiting on "IP ADDY".

it has to be my settings or something cause there are many people around me on with no problems. i'll try to give some detailed info. like ipconfig

please help i'd like to IM my wife and kids back home. thanks!

Is there anyone at your deployed location that can help you? Can you connect to the router via ethernet cable?

not really. most if not all have less computer expeirence then me. i just don't have that much wireless knowledge

using windows... just clicking on the icon in the task bar and connecting to the wifi that is broadcasted across the base. it isn't a router we can see or plug into

Find someone who has no problems with wifi, and take a look at his/her system. Find out what type of wifi card is installed (look in the Device Manager, under network adapters. Check the wifi settings, and copy down the network connection settings. See if those match yours.

You should try using the Intel wireless software to see if that makes a difference.

Sorry bout that. I have vista 64bit.

ya i downloaded the most recent drivers off the intel website. was a download for 5100 and 5300 on the same file i guess. then below it, it had a link for the proset wireless software and i downloaded that. but the two don't work together... lol?

ya just like the link u sent me is where i downloaded it, except for 64bit. i downloaded both the drivers and the proset software. when using the proset software i can't connect using windows. so i had to remove it just to get back on the inet.

Yes. It's the same as mine. Just auto everything, DHCP enabled... just default settings.

I'll try that download when I get off work.

Had another quesiton. If I were to get something like this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Mini-PCI-Laptop-Booster-Antenna-RP-SMA/dp/B0018Q0UBY

and hook it to my WiFi 5100 and then put a +9bdi abtenna on it, and place that outside my window. Would that help anything? And if I were to place that antenna on my 5100... which one would I plug it into? It's a 1x2 correct? So which one lol...

    Thanks for the help man
