I bought an N usb adapter for my xbox 360 to try to take advantage of my N router.I got a trendnet adapter because i have a trendnet router. i though i could just set up the settings but it doesn't seem to work. i just tried to do a "connect now" thing to auto apply the setting for my network but it does recognize and adapter. i don't know what to do. My network uses WAP2 should i turn that off and try everything again. would a usb to ethernet cable make this any easier?

You need a gaming adapter, not a std usb adapter. The gaming adapters (stand alone) allow you to set then up with a pc, then all you do is plug it in to the xbox. Some Access points give you this function to.

The only way to avoid buying the official wifi adapter that I know of is:

    1) Buy a wifi router that can have alternative firmware installed
    2) Install alternative firmware
    3) Use alternative firmware's settings to make the router a "client," essentially making it a adapter card
    4) Disconnect etthernet from computer & connect to Xbox

With a Wifi G, this makes sense as such routers can be had for $30. With N, this hack will cost you around $100, the same price as the official G adapter.

thanks, i thought any router can be set up as a bridge and work like this. there isnt anything that can accept usb wifi connection to a network a stream video.
If i buy a g router with mimo or 108 mbps to do this will it still take advantage of this if it run as a client and connecting to a router of a different brand.

That 108Mbps stuff only works if you have the same brand.
