I dont undertand this. I'm looking to buy the Asus x83, it states it does not have a modem. What exactly does this mean? I thought a modem was necessary to log onto the net? I'm not a dumb by the way, but this term seems to general and confusing. How do you log onto the net without a modem?

A direct link would have been nice but most likely it just means it doesn't come with a built-in modem which is used for dial-up Internet on computer systems. You will still have access to the Internet once there is a Wireless Adapter or an Ethernet port (NIC) built into the computer system.

Modems are only used for Dial-up access, so if your hoping to use AOL to connect your sadly out of luck.

If you use an ethernet cord or Wi-Fi to log in then you'll be fine. I don't even have modem drivers installed on any of my machines, its just a waste of resources for me.
