    no connectivity - WRT54G

    help! help!

    I had to move my cable modem & router physically within the room due to a new desktop in the house. So I did. Now, the only way I can get to the Internet is if I connect directly to the cable modem via Ethernet. If I connect the router to the cable modem, via Ethernet, and then connect the laptop to the router via Ethernet, I get no Internet, even though Windows says I'm connected. Same thing with wireless - Windows and Intel PROSet Wireless say I'm connected, but I get no Internet. So, it seems that Internet is going into the router, but it's not going out?

    I tried upgrading the firmware, but the latest firmware is for version 5 or higher, and I have version 2 router... The lights are: Power - steady, WLAN - steady, 1 - steady (for the 1 Ethernet connection), Internet - mostly steady but blinking from time to time. That's how they were before, too.. Please help :(

    try to ping the router first, go to start, and execute cmd.exe, type ping 192.168.1.1, if that works you are connected to the router and the problem is with the configuration there
    since you say windows tells you that you are connected, the problem could be the ip address latop, enter the router config (open a browser and type http://192.168.1.1) and set enable dhcp server or set your laptop to use an ip address of that range, for example:
    IP:192.168.1.14
    MASK: 255.255.255.0
    GATEWAY: 192.168.1.1 (router ip)

    Hello-s!

    I was reading through Nick's wonderful guides and I noticed that Linksys has great customer support. Well, I thought, they're the people I should go to for help. On top of the technical support page, I noticed some thing called Easy Connect which is supposed to diagnose your connection and do some magic to make connecting easy. So I did it, and it must've done something to the router, cause now I'm on! Hooray! :)

    P.S. bypass thanks for helping, but it's too late now and I don't know if that would've done the trick. I'm glad to not know :)
