hey. i have just bought a net gear wgr614 router to set up a wireless network in myhouse. I have a telewest broadband cable modem and a new-ish good spec computer. Trouble is the modem connects to my computer using a USB lead and not an ethernet cable. However, the modem does have an ethernet port (to connect to the router) but my computer doesnt (to also connect to the router). How do i get round this. Surely my computer must have an ethernet port? If it doesnt what do i do? Do i need to get a different router? Or is there an adapter of sorts?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have never done this before!

Then you should have a NIC, it is onboard LAN (on your motherboard). Just double check at the back of your pc if you have a ethernet port or not, then we can assist this matter further. :)

First, that's very strange. But no problem, since your new router is wireless, you simply connect the modem to the router, and then let the connection between the router and your computer be a wireless one.

    Modem ----- Router )))))))) Notebook / PC 1
    )))))))) Notebook / PC 2

    Cheers

You should have an ethernet port. If not then you can just get a PCI card for your desktops (ethernet or wireless, your choice). They are very easy to install, should take all of 5 minutes. For any notebooks you can get a PC Card in the same way, wired or wireless. This will just slide into the card slot and you are set! Good luck!

looking at the spec of your mb you have a nic. It should be located above the usb ports in back.
