I jsut bought a new Linksys WRT320N router, and the fastest Im reading on my agn4965 is 144Mbps, is that normal? When I swithced it overto 5 Mhz it only read 130Mbps, wasnt it supposed to be faster? I have the lastest driver for the card and the latest firmware for the router. Im wondering if Id be better off with the belkin N+ router since its faster in 2.5 Mhz

You're talking in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz ranges, not the MHz. MHz is where FM radio lives.

Anywho, is 144Mbps too slow for you? What were you expecting to see? Those are pretty good numbers as it is. Did you enable channel bonding? If you didn't, 130-144 is exactly what speeds you should be expecting. Don't forget that wireless transmission is a very finicky beast... it can vary even just from atmospheric conditions. Slight differences like the 130/144 you're seeing are expected.

Read this for some more info before you go buy another router that may or may not speed things up for you.

I wasnt sure what to expect, especially after reading about people acheiving 300 Mbps. I guess its fast enough, I jsut wanted something that could handle streaming movies and media like that. Maybe Im looking in the wrong place, jsut seems like when I click on a page or try to open something its a little slow. I paid for the extra 8mb internet vs the 1 mb service. My roommate used to download constanly and lock up the net, now hes gone.

You are paying for 8mbps from your ISP and your router is giving you 130 mbps. All the router speed in the world isn't going to mean a thing if the bottle neck is your ISP. Your ISP will never transmit anywhere near 130 mpbs--heck FIOS I think maxes out at 50 mbps.

As Pitabread notes, set your router to enable channel bonding (on yours that means to operate at 40 Mhz, set authentication to wpa-psk, encryption to AES.

Ensure your adapter is set up for wireless N mode.

Make sure there are no other devices on your network operating in G mode.

your right, but why is it such a big deal to everyone else in here when I read the multiple posts? Unfourtnatly my wifi card is a 4965agn and wont support 40Mhz in 2.4 mode, and I think Im going ot get rid of the router and stick with a 2.4 only, no need for the 5 Ghz. I really appreaciate everyones advice, im learning a lot from this.

I don't know about the Belkin N+ router, but the previous wireless router (WRT320N) should have connected with your 4965AGN at max 270Mbps when you set it to operate at 5GHz band if you had set the wireless router Radio Band on "Wide - 40MHz Channel" instead of leaving it on "Auto", since 4965AGN can only bond channel at 5GHz band and it has its default channel width at 5GHz band already set to 40MHz (Auto). And also if you had set WPA2-AES for the wireless security.
