Well my router finally arrived, ive decided not to use a domain and my modem arrived a few days ago. I have the modem into the router went through windows network setup, same workgroup on both they still can't connect (my laptop and desktop) to each other, i need to be able to access my desktop from my laptop
-
-
From the little I know, both systems must be configured for Ad Hoc mode as opposed to Infrastructure which is for accessing the Internet.
-
i do need to be able to get on the internet
just to clarify
i have a netgear mr814 connected via ethernet to my desktop, and via ethernet to my bt adsl always on modem.
my laptop is also connected wirelessly to it
the workgroup is mshome on both, and i am able to get on internet on both just not able to get on the other pc to access the partitions i created for this purpose last week. -
this is silly now. I dont even appear on my own list of workgroup computers, and it freezes when i try and go on it most of the time.
-
sorry to keep posting but now every time i try to check windows just freezes up and explorer restarts - i thought this would be easy, any advice from an expert?
-
If i understand correctly, did you disable the firewalls on both PC's?
-
well firewall balloons came up then i clicked yes
-
now disabled but still only the pc that i go on appears, and one pc on one and two on another, and the pc with both doesnt let me on the other
-
now it has not accessible no rights etc
-
Did you disable all of them? That includes if you have Virus protection on each computer, that firewall (if there is one) needs to be disabled.
if that doesn't work, try creating the network again with the firewall off -
Since you didnt join domain, then it would be easier.
Did you shared your folder and set permission?
Did you try to ping from PC > laptop and laptop > PC? Pingable?
If your laptop and PC are not in the list of MSHOME, then try access by Start > Run > then type \\YOURCOMPUTERNAME\\YOURFOLDER
I hope this would help you or you have done. -
i did try typing in the address directly and tried with all firewalls off. Ive had this problem with a multi port network card before neither appeared on each other after the first time, i scrapped that it was to pathetic
-
grr now i dont appear on the list it makes itself, so im a member of a workgroup but supposedly im not, why is this so hard, ive got a bog bog standard setup modem>router>both pcs (one wireless one wired)
both are definitely on the same workgroup -
went on router page, looked at ip address of other pc, tried to ping result 100% loss non received
-
sorry about all the posts but now im deifting in and out, one moment im in the workgroup then im not, then i am
-
right i got on at last, how do i make norton firewall and antivorus allow me to always
-
I got a quick question.
Do you enable "netbios over TCP/IP" for both of your computers? -
i tried it both on and off
-
hmmmm.. strange...
Is there anything to do with the Wireless Card -
hmmmm.. strange...
As long as Netbios is enable, then you may able to see each other.
I got tons of silly questions... I wanna know what is hidding behind.
Is there anything to do with the "Wireless Card Access List" in your router?
Client for Microsoft Network installed?
What IP address for your Laptop, PC and router having?
new network-help me please
