I've tried for the past day to connect my laptop with the 802.11n mode. No matter how i change the settings on my d-link dir655 it will only connect on the 802.11g mode. currently the settings on the router is:

    mixed
    enable auto channel scan checked
    802.11 mode- 2.437 GHz CH 6
    Transmission rate - best
    Channel width 20mhz

    security mode WPA personal
    WPA mode - wpa2 only
    cipher type tkip and aes
    group key update- 3600

what am i doing wrong? i've searched and didn't find anything. my setup is a dell vostro with an intel 4965agn. any help is appreciated.

I was able to connect my intel4965agn chip to a DIR-625 which is about a year old at 144mbps. I would try set it to just Wireless N and not mixed mode.

And I don't know if you already have the most recent firmware which is 1.10 released on October 25 07. And I also saw that this router is certified with `connect to Centrino`so it should work.
Here is the link for the firmware http://support.dlink.ca/products/view.asp?orig=1&productid=DIR-655

I recommend checking the D-Link forums - as a DIR-655 owner, you have access to them. However, you won't get N speeds anyway, since you have to use all D-Link Xtreme components to get 300mbps speeds.

There are a few 4965agn posts on the D-Link forum - you should check them out.

base N speeds is 130mbps. All of the other higher speeds is like 108, 125mbps speed in 11g. The standard spec the base and allow mfg to play with the extra. So you will find to get the best performance they get you twice $$$. Matching chips sets help. But remember one of the requirements is/was that if 11g is present it drops out of channel bonding (40mhz). This loop hole is set to be closed, so it will be required to play well with others.
